Environmental Literacy Coordinator
Position Title: Environmental Literacy Coordinator
Position Type: AmeriCorps*VISTA Position; 12-month term of service; full-time
Location: Office in Golden, Colorado
Salary: Per AmeriCorps*VISTA guidelines; $4,725 education award upon completion, or $1,200 stipend
Benefits: Health coverage through AmeriCorps*VISTA; Federal holidays; ten sick/vacation days; travel paid to training; relocation allowance of up to $550, childcare allowance up to $400 per child/month

Position Description –The environmental literacy coordinator will assist CAEE in developing and implementing an environmental literacy plan to ensure that environmental education opportunities are available for every student in every school across Colorado. This project has immediate and long-term impacts because pending national legislation, titled No Child Left Inside, requires Colorado to have an environmental literacy plan to be eligible for federal funding. Creating this plan will involve developing community based networks of educators, conducting research to support the goals of the plan, developing relationships with nontraditional stakeholders, and strengthening CAEE’s organizational infrastructure related to implementing the environmental literacy plan. These tasks will help fulfill the mission of CAEE and expand quality services to educators serving low-income and at-risk youth.
Responsibilities:
CAEE strives for a delicate balance of professionalism and fun, a climate of innovation within guidelines for excellence, and an atmosphere of enjoyable experiences within the context of serious learning and teaching. The organization seeks an individual who is self-motivated, resourceful, and thrives in a team atmosphere. Communication and public relations skills are essential. The "art" of the position is to make behind-the-scenes work go smoothly, so that members, and clients relax and enjoy learning, networking, or volunteering. Specifically, this position will focus on these initiatives:
Research / Outreach:
1. Work with CAEE staff and volunteers to host regional meetings to obtain feedback about the environmental literacy draft plan. These meetings will focus on creating buy-in and developing stakeholder involvement.
2. Create surveys and analyze data from stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive plan.
3. Assemble and analyze information about district graduation requirements to help create a plan that will be usable by school districts, especially districts with high rates of low-income and at-risk students.
4. Collect research about best practices in environmental education.
5. Prepare the draft plan for submittal to the Colorado Department of Education.
Capacity Building
1. Develop and implement community-based virtual and in-person networks of educators working with youth to develop environmental literacy and stewardship skills to ensure implementation of the plan.
2. Update and enhance website materials to ensure an interactive atmosphere for input into the planning process.
3. Develop a teacher liaison network to share best practices.
4. Work with CAEE and the volunteer writing team to incorporate stakeholder feedback and comments to finalize the environmental literacy plan.
5. Represent CAEE and show leadership within both the environmental education community and in the greater community.
6. Build recognition for CAEE through high-quality programs and effective partnerships.
This position will perform other organizational duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred; however, some college combined with work experience may substitute for a degree.
- Experience working with different stakeholder communities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email, and the internet.
- Self-directed and highly motivated with a love for environmental education.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Good interpersonal skills, team-oriented, enjoy working in a dynamic setting.
