Becoming a Certified Environmental Educator

by Ali Sweeney last modified 08-06-2009 15:06

Nurture your career as an environmental educator:

  • Build and demonstrate strong foundations in environmental literacy.
  • Position yourself for success within the environmental education profession.
  • Help build a network of highly qualified environmental educators in Colorado.
  • Personalize and tailor your own professional development.
  • Become a Certified Environmental Educator.

Whether you are new to the field or have years of experience, the certification program can help you grow as an environmental educator.  We offer two levels of certification and the portfolio requirement allows you to submit work that is relevant to you.

What makes a quality environmental educator?

Certification is a competency based program- one where the applicant will demonstrate what they know and can do by building a portfolio.  The competencies come from the work of a diverse committee who set out to answer the question, "What makes a quality environmental educator?"  They developed the Guidelines for Environmental Educators in Colorado and built an active certification process that sets specific standards of knowledge, skills, and experience that highly qualified environmental educators should be able to demonstrate.

How do I get certified?

Certification for environmental educators is brand new! Colorado is one of only a handful of states that have developed a certification process. If you are interested in becoming one of the first Certified Environmental Educators in the State of Colorado please contact Katie Navin at Email.
